I am a slacking slacker that slacks. There I said it. I knew, KNEW, when I started a blog I would go strong for a few entries then fizzle and die. That is what I always do when I commit to writing. I start with the greatest intentions to journal, write novels, letters to my children, hell even signing my name on greeting cards and I can never seem to commit. What is the deal? Perhaps I should just stick to haiku’s:
Admitted Slacker
Cannot make cakes and write blog
At same time, it seems
Perhaps it was too ambitious of me to think that I could simultaneously start a custom cake business and become a blogger (and a mom and a moon-lighting insurance guru.) Ah but I digress, I’m here aren’t I? My dear readers (aka my mother) will just have to deal with occasional breaks. Soooo what have I been up to you ask? Well, I made a baby shower cake for my friend Michele and it turned out awesome! It was seriously adorable and as soon as I have a minute to actually look at the formatting on this blog I will gussy it up with some fancy dancy pictures. I have to admit, I feel like a legit stalker when I go to parties where my cake or cupcakes are being served. People *think* I am talking to them but really I am barely paying attention as I am too busy eagle-eyeing the person behind them to see their honest reaction as they take their first bite. That is weird right? I should stop doing that or people may stop inviting me places, and if you can’t tell, I need some time out of the house! But anyway, her shower was fabulous, she got a lot of wonderful gifts, she looked glowy and amazing and everyone (said they) liked the cake.
Annnnnnd – it made it there in one piece!
OMG. People. When I said that I wanted to do this, I totally forgot about the part where I have to build it, carry it to the vehicle, put it in a vehicle, drive with it, lift it out of the vehicle in and then set it down. That part is hard. And scary. And super nerve-wracking. Now that I am getting more experience under my belt I have come to the realization that what I really need is a sign for the back of my van “Cake on Board,” or perhaps “Please don’t f’ing honk at me, I have a huge cake in here that took me three days to make and I am sweating bullets going around this curve.” I think that second one really covers it. It is probably far more effective than sympathetically shrugging and mouthing the words “sorry I have a cake” like a moron at them as they zoom by me with hate in their eyes, having no clue what the slow driving weirdo in the van is over-enunciating at them through the closed window. Yes indeed, I will add that sign to my list of to-do’s asap.
This is the first weekend in awhile that I don’t have a job and it will be a nice little break. Tom and I are going on a much needed date night and the kiddos are shacking up and Grandma and Grandpa’s WOOT WOOT! The rest of the weekend will be devoted to doing things around the house to get it ready to go on the market in a few months. I am beyond excited to move, I love our little house because it has so many great memories attached to it but I also like closets, and cupboards, and dry basements- all things this house is severely lacking in. Next weekend my Beans turns 6, where has the time gone I ask you? 6!? I can’t take it! We are taking him for a surprise overnight trip to Splash Lagoon in Erie PA and I know we will love it. I am really looking forward to doing his cake next weekend, my kids cakes are always my favorite to do.
Until then, (or maybe waaay after then if I keep writing at this pace!)
